Your Community Bookstore & Literacy Collaboratory
Park Books & LitCoLab is open in Severna Park Village
Monday through Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sundays 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
We are an independently owned bookstore, located just across the street from the B & A trail. The store was established in May, 2021 and carries new titles in all the major genres. Come for the books and stay for the conversation, atmosphere, author events, Storytime and other community events that promote literacy! Our mission is to curate a collection of books with representation and inclusion in mind.
The LitCoLab (embedded in the store) offers book clubs, literacy assessments, small group reading instruction, writing workshops and we collaborate with other teaching professionals to provide awesome global literacy skills! Follow our social media for up-to-date programming!
Our book and gift inventory are constantly changing. We pride ourselves on keeping our shelves fresh. This means that you will often find best-sellers, signed books, awesome lesser-known-titles and some beloved classics.
Park Books is proud to join Zibby Books in an initiative to visit 22 bookstores in 2022!

Don’t forget to bring us a sticker or button from another indie and we’ll give you 20% off your book purchase here at Park Books!
On 11/27, Park Books & LitCoLab is proud to welcome Mrs. Claus for story time! Mrs. Claus will be reading at 11 a.m. and then she will pose for photos (Take your own photo). If you are able to sign up for story time, you will be able to immediately have a photo taken. If you cannot make it to story time, don’t worry! There are additional slots to sign up beginning at 12 p.m.
There will be a letter-writing station set up (or you can bring your own Christmas letter to Santa! Make sure to include your address so Santa’s elves can write you back!) Please drop off letters by 12/10 to ensure the elves have time to write back!
There is no fee for this event.
On 12/4 AND 12/18, Park Books & LitCoLab is proud to welcome Mr. Grinch (aka. THE GRINCH to those who know him best) for an utterly, terrible storytime! Mr. Grinch will be reading a story all about himself at 11 a.m. (No surprise there) and then he will pose for photos (Take your own photo at your own risk). We asked him to wear deodorant…but he just shrugged. If you are able to sign up for storytime, you will be able to immediately have a photo taken. If you cannot make it to storytime, don’t worry! There are additional slots to sign up beginning at 12 p.m. We are sure there will be plenty of space as we can’t imagine who in the world would want to spend time with The Grinch!
As a close personal friend of the Clauses, Mr. Grinch will collect your ‘Dear Santa’ letters and get them to the North Pole! Please include a return address so Santa’s elves can write back. There is no fee for this event. Seriously…who would pay to be insulted! Mr. Grinch will visit on 12/4 AND 12/18. We ask that families only sign up for one day in order to leave space for others. Thank you!
Park Books is pleased to welcome SANTA CLAUS! Yes, the big guy has carved out some time in his schedule to pop by Park Books to read a story and then meet with children. After storytime, Santa will be here to take photos! Please be prepared with your own camera. We have scheduled 5-minute slots so there is space and time for each child.
This is a free event.
Park books will be helping Santa by collecting new, unwrapped gifts and books this year. If able, please consider giving back this season.

What is the LitCoLab?
Our LitCoLab is a bit different than a traditional tutoring center. Our goal is to help readers be the best they can be–how we get there may be different.
We have skilled K-12 reading specialists, special educators and talented teachers who will assess to determine your reader’s strengths and weaknesses and help answer any of your questions. Upon understanding your child’s individualized needs, we use research and evidenced based interventions to grow your reader into an engaged, passionate and wholly literate person. You will not find homework help or general subject tutoring, but what you will find are caring educators committed to creating independent learners who will have greater success in school and increased opportunities in life!
We also collaborate with other subject matter experts to provide math, foreign language, cultural, and financial literacies workshops on a regular bases. Please check out calendar of events.
“Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything.”~Tommie dePaola
Winter classes are forming: Don’t hesitate to reach out for an assessment today.
Park Books & LitCoLab offers Certified Reading Specialist/Special Educators to work with small groups for specialized and individualized instruction. Our focus is on growing readers at all levels and fostering a love of reading.
We offer a range of services to help you achieve the results you are after. Whether your child is struggling in school, is excelling and would benefit from supplementation, is disengaged in reading, has poor decoding skills, or poor comprehension, we offer a large variety of programs to meet your reader’s needs.
Our reading and writing recovery programs are designed to support learners who have been impacted by the loss of in-person learning or would benefit from enrichment.
Certified Reading Specialists will evaluate your child and provide an informal report or complete comprehensive diagnostic report. Some of the assessments available are Fountas and Pinnell (F & P), QRI, WADE (Orton-Gillingham), GDRT-2, DIBELS and many more!
Reading Specialists and Certified Teachers provide guided reading to small groups (max 5). Groups are leveled by instructional reading level and many students will move at least one guided reading level within 8 weeks!
Specialists instruct students in the writing process to include persuasive, expository, descriptive and narrative writing. Workshops will be offered on college admissions essay writing, grade level grammar, spelling and writing conventions.
“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.”~Roald Dahl
Why You’ll Love Us
There has never been a better time to create and foster a lifestyle rooted in literacy. Literacy skills enrich our everyday life and provide us each with the opportunity to engage with one another in our community. In the 21st century, literacy is not just having the ability to read and write. To be globally literate includes:
- Digital Literacy-ability to use, evaluate, create and critically think about information found online
- Cultural Literacy-a willingness to understand and critique inequities and understanding that our own worldviews may be different than others
- Media Literacy-the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media. Media literate youth and adults are better able to understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music, and all other forms of media
- Financial Literacy-the ability to understand how money works in the world
As our LitCo Lab continues to grow, so will our classes and workshops! We will offer sessions for all ages on varying types of literacy led by experts in the field.
